Will there ever be a season 2 of The Serpent? The first 2021 BBC One Netflix production appears to be a solo limited series, but whether or not there will be a sequel may depend on the outcome of the topic. The Serpent, a film mainly set in the 1970s, tells the life of notorious con artist and serial killer Charles Sobhraj.

Tahar Rahim plays Sobhraj in The Serpent, a jeweler who pretends to be “Alain Gautier” while robbing tourists in Asia. He began murdering travelers who might reveal his crimes while living a lavish lifestyle with lover Marie-Andrée Leclerc, called “Monique” (Jenna Coleman).

The Serpent doesn’t provide much information about the psychological drivers behind Sobhraj’s motivation, but it does indicate that he was selfish enough to think he could outsmart the authorities. The April 2021 Netflix broadcast explains how Herman Knipenberg, a Dutch ambassador, was able to locate “Gautier” and link him to several murders. Billy Howle plays Knippenberg.

The Serpent tells the story of Sobhraj’s atrocities and the occasions leading up to his capture over eight episodes.
