Coe also stated that the attacker had run away and there was no evidence that the attack was politically motivated. Later, the Metropolitan Police Department arrested and charged 26-year-old Kendrick Hamlin with assault.
Craig saw the suspect in the lobby of her building when he was “behaving erratically as if under the influence of an unknown narcotics,” the Metropolitan Police Department reported.
The assailant reportedly began doing push-ups in the elevator before punching Craig on the chin and holding her by the neck. The lawmaker alleged to authorities that she threw hot coffee at the suspect as a last-ditch effort to stop him from fleeing.

While the incident is under investigation by the U.S. Capitol Police, it stated there is “no indication that the congresswoman was targeted because of her position.”

To create “safe and affirming environments for all children and families across the country,” Green is the director of the Welcoming Schools team, a civil rights initiative that teaches teachers how to do this.
She participates in the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s Congressional Families Cancer Prevention Program. Greene holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Atlantic University of Florida and a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Arizona, according to her web bio.
She worked as a classroom teacher, school administrator and basketball coach for over 20 years before joining Welcoming Schools. On July 19, 2022, Rep. Craig the Respect for Marriage Act as he tweeted a picture of her marriage to Greene.
