Who is Luka Doncic

NBA star and Dallas Mavericks player Luka Doncic ended his long legal battle with his mother, Mirjam Poterbin, over trademark rights to his name. The case started in September this year. Doncic had asked the court to take away his mother’s trademark for “Luka Doncic 7”.

He wanted to use “77” instead of “7” as a new trademark. But one researcher thought Doncic’s request to register his trademark could confuse customers because his mother has owned the same brand since 2018.

The star of the Mavericks wanted to sell his line of goods and services in the US under the trademark “77”. But the other trademark owned by his mother, No. 7, was still in use.

Doncic asked the court to get rid of his mother’s trademark. Doncic said his argument for canceling the registration of the “7” mark is based on the fact that his mother did not use the trademark in the US, “based on what I know and believe.” He said she wasn’t pretending to use the logo again. Doncic also said he no longer has anything to do with the trademark.

Miriam Potterbin filed a motion to dismiss the case after her son asked to have the “Luka Doncic 7” trademark taken away. She said the Mavericks star had no good reason to drop the mark.

Doncic’s claims that the trademark was not used in the US were not substantiated. The triple NBA All Star did not substantiate his claims with facts or show that he investigated why the logo was not used.

When they filed the “Luka Doncic 7” trademark, Poterbin had the right to make business decisions for her son. Doncic had written permission to use the logo on products and services. Poterbin said that her son admitted this and for a long time she helped him with business matters related to the “7” market line of goods and services.

But Poterbin did not refute Doncic’s claims with facts or evidence that the logo is being used for business in the country or that she plans to do business with the logo again.
