He promises to make Jorundr the next leader in an attempt to convince him that he is not a threat to Jomsborg.
Freydis notices the arrival of Olaf’s ships at Jomsborg. Freydis gathers her people and explains that she knows Olaf and that she thinks they must remind him that there is still work to be done for God’s cause if they are to live. Freydis and Olaf eventually cross paths. He asks that Harald’s descendants not be pagans.
Olaf is told by Freydis that she must be killed if he is to have her child. Jorundr is berated by Gudrid, who calls him a traitor. She hands him a secret note from Freydis when she approaches him. Godwin informs Queen Emma in London that Princess Gytha will make amends for what she took from him. Godwin predictably refutes this. But it seems that Godwin has planned everything for his own benefit. It’s time for Godwin and Princess Gytha’s wedding. It’s a private matter. Gytha receives a gift from Queen Emma that is very important to her. Godwin is accepted into King Canute’s family. Canute then instructs Emma to put her doubts about Godwin behind her.
Gytha and Godwin go to bed for their wedding night. She exposes him her naked body (and the tattoos to remind him that he married a Viking). Godwin sees the Queen’s gift, a necklace containing a piece of jewelry that belonged to the bear, the man who helped raise him and was involved in the assassination plot against Queen Emma.

Godwin wants her to delete it, but she can’t because she made a commitment to do so. Godwin will be constantly reminded of his betrayal and the fact that he was ultimately responsible for the Bear’s downfall at the hands of Emma, who brutally tortures him. The passengers continue their journey, but Mariam has health problems.
Mariam spends time with everyone as night falls until she passes away. This is a sad time. She asks if Harald takes care of Leif on her behalf. Leif drags her to a quiet place and Mariam begs him to be happy for her as it is a lovely place to die. She hands him the key to her small house in Constantinople and tells him it is his and filled with useful items for his journey.
She dies in his arms. Leif and his companions officiate Mariam’s funeral the next day. Harald then asks Elena why she is taking the time to deliver her father’s treasure to the Emperor. Elena takes her time as she is not sure what will happen next. They give each other a passionate kiss as a result of their journey developing feelings together.
A surprising love story that seemed to have ended soon begins.
