The bodies of eight people, including five children, were found this week were found shot to death in their home in Utah. According to an Enoch City press release, police officers found the bodies of the family members in their home on Wednesday while conducting a “welfare check.”
All of the family members’ bodies were found in the house and they “appear to have all been shot,” the press release said. The names and ages of the deceased have not been made public.
“At this point, we don’t believe there is a threat to the public or suspects in general.” city officials also explained. Authorities have not said when the people died, what led to the shootings or who called for help. The investigation is still ongoing.
Enoch City Manager Rob Dotson said Wednesday night that the community is saddened by the deaths of the eight people.

“It’s hard to put into words what the people who live here feel,” Dotson said at a press conference, according to The Washington Post. “Everyone knows this family. Many of us have worked with these people in church, community or school.”
“This community right now hurts. They feel loss; they feel pain. They have a lot of questions, which is natural, and they are here to support.” Dotson also said investigators from Enoch City, Iron County and Cedar City are working together to find out what happened.

In a tweet, Utah Governor Spencer Cox wrote, “Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this senseless violence.” Utah Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson also offered her condolences in a statement on Twitter, writing, “What a disaster. I pray tonight for the community of Enoch.”
