Two people die in a minor plane crash at JFK Airport in Westchester County

The small plane that crashed in a densely wooded area after going missing in Westchester County is still standing. The bodies of the two men on the plane were found nearby. The pilot and passenger were Cleveland Jews, according to authorities.

The Beechcraft A36, a single-engine aircraft, was found in a wooded area late Thursday night after a local search and rescue operation, Westchester County Police said. The helicopter crashed less than two miles from the Westchester County Airport after taking off from JFK en route to the Cuyahoga County Airport just south of Cleveland.

Before FAAA air traffic controllers lost radar and radio contact with the plane, according to the FAA, the pilot reported possible engine problems. A crashed plane was discovered in the woods. The pilot was cleared by the FAA to fly from JFK, even though the sky was covered with rain and thunder Thursday night. According to officials, the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the matter.

The Beechcraft A36 crashed at approximately 6:15 p.m. en route from JFK Airport to Ohio’s Cuyahoga County Airport after the pilot reported an engine failure a mile away. Westchester County Airport in White Plains, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

According to Westchester County officials, the plane was discovered several hours later in a forest near Rye Lake. The bodies of both passengers were found among the rubble. Their names have not yet been made public.
