Twitter is considering a cheaper organizational verification plan

Twitter is thinking of an organizational verification plan that doesn’t cost $1,000 a month. Over the weekend, Elon Musk said on Twitter that the company is working on a cheaper plan for small businesses, but did not provide details on the cost.

The Twitter owner said the company is figuring out a new onboarding process to ensure organizations requesting verification are not involved in fraudulent activity.

Currently, brands must spend $1,000 per month for verification to get a gold check, along with $50 per month for each connected account. For smaller organizations this amount can be a significant expense just to maintain their presence on Twitter.

As always, Musk did not disclose the cost of the plan, what kind of companies might be eligible for it, or when Twitter plans to launch the new tier.

The social network has been pushing for paid verification for a while now. Especially after it removed obsolete checkmarks last month, causing many organizations to lose their verification status.

At the same time, Twitter started sending emails to various accounts telling them to subscribe to the Twitter Blue or Organizational Verification plan to advertise on the platform.

“As of April 21, your @account must have a verified check mark or subscribe to Twitter Blue or Verified Organizations to continue serving ads on Twitter. Business accounts spending more than $1,000 per month already have or will soon have gold checks, and they will continue to have access to advertising without interruption at this time,” the company said in an email.

However, organization verification is not limited to Twitter. Last week, Gmail launched Blue verified checkmarks to ensure that a brand emailing users is authentic.
