Trugoy the pigeon, a well-known rapper and De La Soul member, recently passed away at the age of 54. On social media, some well-known people paid respect to Trugoy, aka David Jolicoeur. On Facebook, comedian Eric Schwartz posted a photo of David with the caption:

“For years, De La Soul struggled to regain the rights to their songs. Trugoy the Dove, nicknamed Dave, dies just like her. De La Soul was a creative force that revolutionized people’s perception of what “rap” could be. A great pioneer and icon. Thank you very much, Plug 2.”

Quest Green, a motivational speaker, also shared his grief on Facebook, writing:

“Man… I am heartbroken at the loss of yet another precious brother. David Jode Jolicoeur, nicknamed Plug Two, or Trugoy de Duif from De La Soul… Thanks for the music, but especially for the memories. #delaforlife #dematlantadayzandnights.”

While the reason for his death has not been confirmed, Trugoy has previously spoken about his health issues, particularly congestive heart failure.

In the video clip of Royalty Capes from 2017, Trugoy de Duif discussed his health problems.

Trugoy had been battling congestive heart disease for a long time, which hampered his career by forcing him to miss most of his De La Soul concerts. Trugoy discussed his heart failure in the music video for De La Soul’s debut hit, Royalty Capes, in 2017.

David was featured in the film at his home in suburban Maryland, talking about his life and what it was like to live with a vest that protects him from congestive heart failure. David characterized the life jacket in the video as a mechanism that would shock him and bring him “back out of the matrix”. He added that he was eager to return to the stage and missed traveling and performing.
