Milena Govich is a talented American actress, singer and director, who is perhaps best known for her recurring role on the television series “Law and Order” as Detective Nina Cassady. She is also known as the wife of writer David Cornue. Milena has many talents and acting is not her only profession. Early life and family
Milena Govich was born on 29 October 1976, in Norman, Oklahoma, USA, to Dr. Bruce Micheal Govich and Dr. Marilyn Green Govich.
Both her parents are professors of music and were the inspiration behind Milena’s interest in music.
Her father, who died in 1993, taught at the University of Oklahoma, and her mother continues to teach singing at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. Her father was of Serbian descent and her mother a mix of Scottish and English bloodlines. Milena’s aunt, Melica Govich, is also an actress, having appeared on television and in Broadway plays.
Educational background
Milena graduated from Norman High School in her hometown.
Despite the loss of her father, Milena was still able to earn high enough grades to be the valedictorian for her class of 1994. She went on to attend the University of Central Oklahoma, where her mother taught, and graduated with a double major in pre-medical and vocal performance, and also achieved minors in dance and violin. She again achieved spectacular grades and was appointed as the valedictorian of her varsity graduation ceremony.
Career
Milena then moved to New York City to pursue her ambitions to become an actress, landing a role in the Broadway musical “Cabaret” at Studio 54.

She was originally supposed to play the role of Lulu, but was later replaced in the lead role by Sally Bowles.
She continued her career on Broadway, landing roles in musicals including the revival of “The Boys From Syracuse”, the Beach Boys musical “Good Vibrations”, and also landed the title role in “Throughly Modern Millie”. She also had the lead role in “Sweet Charity” at The Lyric Theater.
Milena made her screen debut in the 2004 short film “Bad Behavior” playing the role of Alex. In 2005, she made her first appearance in “Law and Order” as Geneva in the episode “Flaw”.
Then she returned to play the role of ‘Nina Cassady’ in the 17th season of “Law and Order” from 2006 to 2007. However, it was not her first recurring role as at the same time, in 2005, she landed the role of Candy in ” Rescue Me”, which she kept for 16 episodes until 2009, and from 2006 Milena also landed the recurring role of Jessica Rossi on the set of “Conviction”.
Always in demand, Milena continued her success in films as well, starring in titles such as “East Side Story” and “Sordid Things”. In 2011, she starred in the movie “A Novel Romance”, and in 2015 she had roles in both the movies “# Lucky Number” and “Pass The Light”.
While her film credits are small, Milena has had much more success on television, appearing in shows like “Body of Proof,” “Psych,” and “The Mentalist.” In 2014 and 2015, she had the recurring role of Lori Stevens in “Finding Carter”.
Her latest work now mainly includes directing positions, such as for episodes in the television series ‘Chicago Med’, ‘Chicago Fire’, ‘The In Between’ and ‘FBI’.
Her most recent acting performances were in the 2018 feature film “Closure” and the 2020 film “Be The Light”.
As a singer, her career includes the pinnacle of singing the US national anthem at the opening of the New Jersey Devils 10 October 2008 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Milena also toured as a guest artist with Fei Xiang, a Chinese pop star.
