Is Disney having a gay day?

Disney doesn’t have an official “Gay Day,” but the company does recognize and celebrate it Pride month in June. Disney has publicly supported the LGBTQ+ community for many years by producing films and television shows featuring openly gay characters and stories. In addition, Disney’s theme parks host unofficial “Gay Days” organized by outside groups, where members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies are encouraged to wear the same color to show solidarity. Disney continues to take a stand and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community through its films, television and merchandise.
Ethan Clade, the first openly gay main character in a Disney film, will appear in the upcoming animated film Strange World as part of the film’s celebration of the LGBTQ community. Ethan Clade, a gay comedian who will be voiced by Jaboukie Young-White, will debut on November 23, 2022. A movie like this is especially significant because it was released just after two major LGBTQ milestones: National Coming Out Day (October 11) and the first March on Washington (April 19, 1979). LGBTQ people celebrate this important milestone in the LGBTQ community and a sign of progress in representation. Disney’s decision to have an openly gay main character shows their commitment to acceptance, inclusion and understanding. We are confident that this decision will have a significant impact on the lives of LGBTQ people in the years to come and will serve as a source of inspiration for years to come.
