Rutina Wesley was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, on December 21, 1978, to Cassandra Wesley and Ivery Wheeler. She grew up in Las Vegas where she attended the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts. Wesley earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theater performance.
