Entertainment RG practices in US IGaming states? NCPG report finds almost none at all Ana LopezFebruary 16, 20230269 views The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), a national non-profit organization that works to reduce the negative impact of gambling addiction, has released a new report highlighting the lack of responsible gambling practices in states where online gambling is legal. While more than half of the states do not meet the Internet Responsible Gambling Standards (IRGS), the rest do not meet the full list of requirements laid down in responsible gaming practices. Results of NCPG 2022 report On Monday 30e In January, the Council Report 2022. After examining compliance with the IRGS in states where iGaming is legal, the results showed that the majority of these states did not meet responsible gambling standards for Internet gambling activities set by the Council. The findings of the report titled “US Online Responsible Gaming Regulations: An Evaluation Against National Council on Problem Gambling Standards” were further discussed in a statement from the NCPG. There are currently a total of seven US states that offer legal online gambling activities. The report’s results showed that regulations in four of the seven states where iGaming is legal fall significantly short of the NCPG’s minimum responsible gambling standards. These four major jurisdictions are Nevada, Michigan, Delaware, and West Virginia, and they “do not authorize operators to provide adequate responsible gambling protection to players.” What this boils down to is the failure of these four states to comply with the IRGS framework developed by the NCPG. Does this mean that the other three states are fully compliant with the IRGS framework? The answer is quite disturbing. While the other three states where iGaming is legal — i.e. Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Connecticut — meet responsible gambling requirements, they only partially do so. According to NCPG’s explanation, the three states cover a certain minimum, but “still do not meet the full list” of responsible gambling requirements. This is very worrying to say the least. Implementing responsible gambling practices has always been a critical factor, more recently with several providers being licensed to operate legally in the US. In addition, with so many tempting offers like $1000 no deposit bonuses or free bets promoted by casinos and sportsbook operators respectively, there has never been such an urgent time to address the issue. NCPG remains in its original role and continues to support RG efforts In 2012, the NCPG developed the IRGS, which has been regularly updated with the various changes that the country’s online gambling market has undergone. The ultimate goal of these standards is to address key issues in this area and provide necessary recommendations within the responsible gambling industry. Quoting an NCPG spokesperson, “IRGS sets the standard for consumers to make sure whichever operator they choose; they can trust that the platform has the responsible gambling tools necessary to play it safe.” According to the Council, gambling addiction can be mitigated by joining forces in the areas of education, treatment, research and a public health strategy. While the results of the new probe aren’t exactly encouraging, the NCPG will continues its work in supporting responsible gambling efforts as well as making recommendations for every state where iGaming is legal to ensure compliance with the IRGS.
