An Italian-language mystery film titled 7 Women and a Murder (7 donne e un mistero) is about seven distinctly different women who become involved in the murder of a man. Margherita Buy, Diana Del Buffalo and Sabrina Impacciatore play the title characters in the Alessandro Genovesi-directed and co-written film.
Benedetta Porcaroli, Micaela Ramazzotti, Luisa Ranieri, Ornella Vanoni and Luca Pastorelli make up the full cast of the one hour and twenty four minutes long film. The film’s cinematographer is Federico Masiero, while Claudio Di Mauro leads the editing team.
The official synopsis of the film is as follows:
Susanna (Diana Del Bufalo) enters her father’s large estate as part of her introduction to the distant family in this traditional whodunnit murder mystery. Margherita, Susanna’s egocentric mother, her sister, her sneaky grandmother and Maria, her newlywed maid, are among the wayward relatives.
When everyone learns that Marcello, the old man who had a casanova-like reputation and was Susanna’s father, has died, the visit immediately turns into a nightmare. They start accusing each other of being the killer. In addition, the situation turns chaotic as everyone uncovers a long-kept secret to establish their innocence and concludes that the killer is in the same room.
Almost everything in the movie is a clichéd screenplay that doesn’t advance the plot. Even though the screenplay may have been developed with the repetitive elements, the constant effort to impose humor and wit undermines the whole plan.
For example, when the over-the-top parts are executed carefully and convincingly, feelings of mortality can be evoked in a mystery film. Due to the lack of character exposure, situations such as a group of women enjoying a celebratory dinner immediately after the death of their patriarch feel unnatural and fake.
Overall, it seems like a hurried method with even weaker treatment when continuous and forceful aspects are used to divert attention from the research: something that should have been avoided in order to increase the interest and clarity of the design.
Halfway through the film, however, a really intriguing scene takes place. when each woman discovers the other’s secret and sits back to think. The problem is that the affair only lasts a few minutes before resuming its normal course.
Last but not least, the plot lacks crucial components. And I’m having a hard time thinking of anything you can remember after seeing the movie. Again, the cast tries to shine brighter than the story, but fails miserably.
7 Women and a Murder Final Thoughts
This Italian whodunit movie doesn’t play by the rules of the genre because it’s not tight and catchy enough to pass. PS If you want to see a better murder mystery during the holiday season, go online.
