One person was shot and killed at a mall in El Paso, and three other people were injured

A shooting at a shopping mall in El Paso, Texas, killed one person and injured three others on Wednesday. This comes on top of dozens of people who have already died in mass shootings across the United States this year.

El Paso police said two people were taken into custody hours after the shooting, but they did not say what caused the shooting.

Peter Pacillas, the interim police chief, said the Cielo Vista Mall is still being treated as a crime scene and will remain closed until the investigation is complete.

Pacillas made it clear that the threat was over. “Is there no more danger? I’ll say it again: the public is no longer in danger,” Pacillas said.

The shooting took place in a busy shopping area, opposite a large parking lot of a Walmart where 23 Hispanic people were killed in a racist attack in 2019.

El Paso, which has a population of about 700,000 and is mostly Latino, is on the US-Mexico border, where people from both countries often cross.
