Olivia Newton-John Memorial: Melbourne bids farewell to a star

Fans of Olivia Newton-John will have the chance to publicly mourn and celebrate her life five months after her untimely death from breast cancer. Fans of the late celebrity are invited to attend her public, formal state memorial, which will be held in her native Australia.

On February 26 at Hamer Hall, Melbourne Arts Centre, the legendary Grease actress and singer will be recognized with a public service in her hometown of Melbourne. The gathering, with tributes from family and friends, was hosted by Olivia’s family.

She is survived by her husband, John Easterling, and her daughter, Chloe Rose Lattanzi. The performer is Delta Goodremwho worked with Olivia in the past, portraying her in the 2018 Australian biography mini-series, Olivia Newton-John: Hopelessly Devoted to You.

Prime Minister of the State Victoria Daniel Andrews said in a statement:

“Dame Olivia Newton-John has been an inspiration to many around the world – her work in cancer research and treatment has saved and changed lives and her music has been the soundtrack of a generation.”

He added:

“We know Victorians love to celebrate the life of a driving force in medical research and an icon of film and music, with a service befitting her international acclaim.”

A small number of free tickets will be available for those who wish to attend the service. Registration for the event will officially open on February 10. On August 8, Olivia, 73, passed away after a long battle with breast cancer. She married her 14-year-old husband in 2008, and he broke the news with a tearful tribute.

“A symbol of triumph and hope for over 30 years, Olivia shares her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience in plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, which is dedicated to plant medicine and cancer research.”
