“My divorce was not a battle,” MC Lyte says of the media divorce “Battle” claims.

MC Lyte’s divorce from businessman John Wyche was finalized this week, nearly three years after she first filed. The couple married in 2017, but separated not long after. MC Lyte was lucky because she had a prenuptial agreement that allowed her to keep all of her music.

As the court documents, “MC Lyte maintains in her possession, custody or control her clothing, jewelry, watches and personal effects, and earnings and accumulations before the wedding date, during the marriage and after the divorce, her Subaru, financial accounts in her name , all furniture, furnishings and other personal property in its possession, custody or control. She also gets to keep her life insurance policy.”

But it seems that MC Lyte doesn’t like how her divorce is being talked about. The “Poor Georgie” rapper posted a statement on Instagram on January 22 said that, “My divorce was not a struggle.”

In the caption, MC Lyte said Wyche wasn’t the villain some publications make him out to be. She said he instead tried to salvage their relationship before agreeing to the breakup.

“My divorce was not a struggle,” she wrote. “My ex-husband, John Wyche, never tried to take anything from me before, during or after our marriage. Anything written or said that claims or implies otherwise is untrue and dishonest. I do not endorse or support anything aimed at securing clicks and views by making slanted posts at the expense of the reputation of innocent parties.

“While I have made public comments about the delay in signing papers, I can argue that any delay may be related to his desire to salvage the relationship; never to take anything from my property.”

Then MC Lyte, who stars in her own sitcom Partners In Rhyme, decided to talk about some of the things she’s learned since they broke up.

“Divorce does not equate to failure,” she continued. “We didn’t fail, it just didn’t work. I pray for his welfare as I do for mine, and I wish him nothing but God’s choice blessings. If you have something to protect when entering a marriage, get a prenuptial agreement so there is no confusion when it comes to an end. By the way, make sure you protect all of your assets with proper insurance, financial planning, and estate planning. Our people are well behind the wealth gap, get a financial education and do what is in your power to protect what God has blessed you with.”

“Focus on love and truth. Be careful what you say or suggest about others. No one is perfect and we all have something we need grace to cover. With all the mental health crises we face as humanity, I pray that we will see more common hearts among each other and less judgment.

Last February, MC Lyte was a guest on The Real, where she talked about their ongoing divorce.

“I’m actually still going through it,” she said. “I think when the press got hold of it, people thought we were [still together]. I had just filed a report. So we are still working on it.”
