Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg faced thousands of anxious employees this morning in a town hall meeting with all employees, just two days after announcing the company would cut 10,000 jobs.
According to The Washington Postreceiving a transcript of the event, Zuckerberg answered questions and attempted to explain Meta’s reorganization and restructuring plan.
One employee asked how they could trust him, just four months after last November’s carnage, when Meta laid off about 11,000 workers, 13% of its workforce. At that point, Zuckerberg assured workers that there would be no more cuts in the “near future”.
“I suspect that the way people would judge whether you trust me and want to work at this company is whether we manage to make progress toward the overall goals,” Zuck said. “I think this is a lot about the results we can deliver.”
Zuckerberg explained that the company was responding to economic pressures that could last for a while. “But I think it’s a fair question,” he said.

Concerns about remote working and corporate culture
Later, Zuckerberg was asked about the future of remote working at the company.
He replied that it could remain “an ongoing conversation”, although he did not rule out possible return mandates. Some large companies, such as Amazon and Disney, require employees to return to the office full-time or part-time.
Another employee asked how to stay productive as the threat of layoffs circled campus halls, according to WaPo.
Zuckerberg admitted this was an uncertain time, but added, “It’s not like we can interrupt work while we figure this out.”
