Early life and education
Matt grew up in Woodlands in a middle-class family – his father is a construction worker who left the family shortly after Matt was born, while his mother is a teacher; he has a sibling.
He had problems while attending primary school, as he was bullied and eventually developed mild depression and anxiety. Music helped him overcome his problems, and when he enrolled at The Woodlands High School, he began writing his own rap lyrics, and it was there that he met Kevin Summary, Merlyn Wood, Ameer Vann and JOBA with whom he would later form a band. He sang for his friends and they performed together at various bars in Woodlands. He was also very athletic in high school playing football and basketball, but after his matriculation exam, Matt decided to focus on his rap career and did not enroll in college.
Career as a rapper
Matt and his friends used to play together in high school, and in 2010 Kevin Abstract posted a message on the KanyeLive forum asking if anyone would like to band together, and got 30 replies. Alive Since Forever became active in 2012 and released their first extended play (EP) in 2013 entitled “ASF EP”. However, the band split in 2014 to form BROCKHAMPTON and release their first single titled “Bet I” in January 2015. Their two new singles “Cannon” and “Face” were released in January and May 2017 and were part of their debut album “Saturation”. Some of the other singles on the album were “Heat”, “Star” and “Gold” – the album was officially released on June 9, 2017. Their second album “Saturation II” followed on August 25, 2017 with the main track “Gummy”, while the last album in the trilogy entitled “Saturation III” was released on December 15, 2017 – these three albums together made the group popular in the US.
The band got in trouble and Matt, among others, accused Ameer Vann of sexual misconduct, which he denied, but was removed from the group on May 27, 2018. They did not perform for a month, after which their new album “The Best Years” was announced in June. of Our Lives” and released the debut song “Tonya”, while the album was renamed “Iridescence” and released on September 21, 2018. In January 2019, BROCKHAMPTON was nominated for the Best International Group at the BRIT Awards. Their latest album – ” Ginger” was released on August 21, 2019.

Hobbies and other interests
Matt looks up to artists like Eminem, Kurt Cobain and Snoop Dogg, and he grew up listening to their music. He likes to watch movies with his girlfriend in their free time – his favorite actor and actress are Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway while some of his favorite movies are “Edward Scissorhands”, “Coming to America” and “Braveheart”.
He loves to travel and tours all over the US with his band, while he has also been to Canada and visited several European countries such as Greece, Portugal and France, with his dream travel destination being Athens in Greece.
Physically, he is active as he has several workouts in the gym every week, while also occasionally playing tennis and soccer with his friends and band colleagues. He enjoys tasting different cuisines, with Italian being his favorite, but follows a strict diet as he believes it is just as important as exercise.
