Jermaine Dupri Real Estate Investments
In 2011, the execution trial began for his mansion in northwestern Atlanta. Foreclosure was postponed for a while, but it started again in 2012.
After Dupri defaulted on the $2.5 million loan he took out to buy the property, the house was put up for auction.
His home in the Mount Paran area of Atlanta was also listed for foreclosure in December 2012, and it appears he lost this home in 2014.
The Early Years of Jermaine Dupri
On September 23, 1972, Jermaine Dupri Mauldin was born in Asheville, North Carolina. Michael, his father, was a manager for Columbia Records.
When Jermaine was young, his career took off. Dupri took the stage to dance with Diana Ross at a 1982 Atlanta performance that his father hosted.
When he was only 12 years old, he started dancing with the hip-hop group Whodini. He appeared in the group’s smash hit 1980 music video for “Freaks Come Out at Night.”
He began working with young musicians in the Atlanta area when he was a teenager, dancing for Run DMC and Grandmaster Flash.

Dupri, then 18 years old, produced a song for the female rap group Silk Tymes Leather in 1990. While the record didn’t do well, Jermaine learned a lot from the experience.
Dupri’s first major success came after he found two young rappers in a nearby mall. The successful singles “Jump” and “Warm It Up”, both of which Dupri composed and produced, were included on their self-titled first album, which he produced.
In 1993 Dupri launched his own record company, So So Def. Dupri discovered and signed the female R&B group Xscape not long after its launch So sure.
The singles ‘Understanding’, ‘Tonight’ and ‘Just Kickin’ It’ were all taken from their platinum selling debut album ‘Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha’, which was produced entirely by him.

Jermaine Dupri Financial Struggle
Jermaine Dupri has faced financial difficulties despite having a net worth of $60 million in 2006 and earning $11 million in 2008.
In addition to the estimated $2.5 million he owed between 2003 and 2005, he was fined an estimated $183,000 in unpaid taxes in 2008.
Dupri had to pay a total of $493,818.75 in taxes in 2012, even though his first bill was only $254,782.64. After he failed to file a return for 2007, the fines and interest were increased.
Dupri was sued by SunTrust Bank in 2013 for failing to repay a $5 million debt he incurred three years earlier.
To pay off the bank, Dupri had to sell his recording studio and his So So Def music collection, which includes songs by Da Brat, Bow Wow, Kriss Kross and Xscape.
He put the copyrights of his record label, So So Def, as collateral. Dupri countered the bank, claiming that his studio was worth $2.5 million and his music collection was worth $20 million.
He sought attorney’s fees and damages totaling at least $216,000. In June 2015, a judge ordered Dupri to pay SunTrust bank a total of $1,820,593.10 as part of the lawsuit settlement.
The full amount of the payment due, including interest of $225,146.80, was $2,045,739.90. Dupri was granted a lien on May 29, 2018, allegedly for failing to pay $575,000 in back taxes.
His non-payment of income tax for the years 2012, 2014 and 2015 will be charged in the lien. The Georgia Department of Revenue claims Dupri owes a total of $578,638 in taxes.
