Tati and James were reportedly sued for $30 million in October 2020 by her business partner Clark Swanson. YouTube after exposing her former mentee James Charles in a video she subsequently deleted, she then uploaded a video blaming Dawson and Star, which only added to the intensity of the death threats she was receiving at the time.

Tati stated that this was not a great time for her marriage to James and that the two did not want to be around each other. Tati revealed that she no longer lived with her husband and that she had taken off her wedding ring. Her wedding ring was lost in the shuffle when she gave up her jewelry collection.
