Prosecutors say they have filed a murder charge against Brian Walshe, the husband of missing mother Ana Walshe. Walshe will appear in court on Wednesday to face the murder charge, and the warrant was issued by the Norfolk County District Attorney on Tuesday.

“The ongoing investigation has now enabled police to obtain an arrest warrant charging Brian Walshe with the murder of his wife,” District Attorney Michael Morrissey said in a video statement. Walshe was charged Tuesday night with illegal handling and transfer of human remains, prosecutors said.

In the statement, Morrissey did not elaborate on whether or not a body had been found for Ana Walshe or what evidence led authorities to conclude she was deceased. On Friday, a judge in Quincy District Court sealed the murder warrant, indicating that there were 13 was already sealed in connection with the case. Morrissey’s full message is included in its entirety below.

“They may not have a physical body, but in this day and age you don’t really need that,” said Professor Richard Fox, who teaches forensics at Bunker Hill Community College. “If you have something that can prove a person is dead, say a certain amount of blood in the car or in the house or something, blood is considered connective tissue — that’s your body.”

Ana Walshe has been missing for almost a week and her husband first told police she hadn’t been seen since New Year’s Day. Since the weekend, the police have detained Brian Walshe on suspicion of defrauding detectives during the hunt for his wife. He entered a not guilty plea.

“This sounds to me like a crime that wasn’t very well planned,” said Fox. “Sounds like some kind of crime of passion.” Tracy Miner, who is representing Brian Walshe in court, has declined to comment on the new allegations against him. Cohasset, the rest of Massachusetts, the rest of the country, and even those in Serbia (where Ana Walshe was born) are fascinated by the search for Walshe.

Investigators have scattered across the Greater Boston area in search of clues. Sources have verified that while searching trash in Peabody, police discovered a hacksaw, bloody towels, and other items similar to those Brian Walshe allegedly purchased at Home Depot.

Walshe was charged Monday with police deception, to which he pleaded not guilty. The allegations stem from the discovery of a knife and blood in Walshe’s basement, as well as $450 worth of cleaning supplies purchased from a Home Depot.
