Conditions for obtaining Impero
There are a total of 34 spells in Hogwarts Legacy, 31 of which are unmissable. This is not the case with the 3 Forbidden Spells, as the game gives you the choice of whether or not to learn them during the sequel to Sebastian Pallow’s quests. Their learning is linked to your dialogue choices during the different phases, and it is possible not to learn them. But in this case, it is irreversible and your wizard will never be able to use them. These spells make combat easier, but they are not necessary for anything.
Learn Impero
Like Cruciatus, this control spell is also incredible as it pierces shields and turns the target against its allies. If you use this spell on a troll, it will destroy the enemy ranks. As a bonus, if you only control an enemy, you are considered out of action, so your life recovers. It’s fantastic against some tough opponents, or in arenas. You can even attack your new slave risk-free. The spell’s recharge time is short enough to control it almost permanently.

When you’re in the crypt, Sébastien will simply offer to teach you the spell “just in case”. Choose your answer carefully: Accept to learn the spell. Refusing to learn it will permanently rob you of it.
A little later, during the same quest, you’ll get a chance to use it on Ominis, but it’s definitely not necessary.
Dark magic battle arena
If you fancy a taste of the unforgivable spells, or prefer to play a friendly wizard, you still get the opportunity to play with the forbidden spells. This is the Dark Arena, included in the Hogwarts Legacy Deluxe DLC. The entrance is on the edge of the Forbidden Forest. You can open it by lighting the braziers and destroying the white vases.
