Astrid Menks spent her early years in Latvia. There she was raised by her parents, but there is no information about their names and occupations. Warren Edward Buffett was born on August 30, 1930, under the constellation Virgo, in Omaha, Nebraska USA, where he and his two sisters were raised by their father, Congressman Howard Buffett, and mother Leila Buffett. His father also owned a brokerage firm, so Warren became interested in investing and the stock market at a very young age.
At the age of ten, he even visited the New York Stock Exchange. and soon bought his first shares of Cities Service Preferred at age 11.
Educational background
Warren Buffett attended Rose Hill Elementary School and then Alice Deal Junior High School. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1947, he wanted to pursue a career in business, as he had already made about $5,000 delivering newspapers. However, under pressure from his father, Warren enrolled at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Two years later, he transferred to the University of Nebraska, graduating at age 19 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He then continued his education at Columbia Business School of Columbia University, where he received his Master of Science degree in economics in 1951. After that, Warren attended the New York Institute of Finance.

Warren Buffett began pursuing his career at his father’s firm, Buffett-Falk & Co., where he worked as an investment salesman between 1951 and 1954. At the same time, he taught the investment principles course at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
He was soon noticed by businessman Benjamin Graham and began working in his company, Graham-Newman Corp., as a securities analyst until 1956, when the company shut down when Benjamin retired.

At the time, Warren had more than $174,000 in personal savings (about $1.47 million today), so he formed his own partnership called Buffett Partnership Ltd. of the decade, Warren operated seven. In the 1960s, Warren focused the company on the insurance industry. In 1970, he took over as CEO and chairman, and by the end of the decade the company had shares worth $1,310. In 1985, the company was sold, after which Warren became a billionaire in 1990, when the company sold his Class A shares at $7,175 each, but he still owns approximately 300,000 Class A shares of the company.
Other business ventures
Warren Buffett has also invested in a number of other companies. In 1987, he became the largest shareholder of Salomon Inc. and took over. One of his best investments came the following year when he began buying stock in the Coca-Cola Company. He has also invested in the Washington Post Company, the Sanborn Map Company, General Electric Company, and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation railroad company, among others. Charity work
Warren Buffett is also known as a philanthropist – he has stated that he will donate 83% of his fortune to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; he also runs his own charity Buffett Foundation. In December 2010 he co-created “The bestowal promise”, along with Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, who invited wealthy people to donate at least half of their fortune to charity, as they had done.
