In July 2022, Ben Affleck was confirmed to play Batman in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. When it was later revealed that Michael Keaton will be reprising his role as Batman from Batman and Batman Returns, things got more problematic.

Jason Momoa acknowledged working with both Batmen on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom set. All of this was done to move the franchise forward, but those goals have now shifted. However, since they are colleagues and friends, the Affleck and Aquaman partnership still makes sense.

Anyway, these appearances come out as a result of the new DCU plans, ideally they should be few. They might serve to arouse anticipation for one Justice League movie, perhaps in the post-credits stinger when Aquaman is recruited by Batman for a new job.

Fortunately, the oceanic setting of the story prevents the surface cameo denizens from developing into anything more. If it did, it could quickly distract from the movie’s main goal: continuing the Aquaman plot. As a result, Affleck can appear as Bruce Wayne instead of Batman.

Jason Momoa filmed scenes with multiple Batman actors for Aquaman 2

Jason Momoa, who plays Batman in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, has hinted at the character’s future in the DC Comics universe. He said he worked with several Batman actors while filming the movie. The sequel, which has been delayed numerous times but is currently set to premiere on Christmas Day, is the sequel to 2018’s Aquaman, the DCU’s biggest global box office hit.

The upcoming movie, again directed by James Wan, will follow Aquaman (Momoa) as he is forced to form an alliance with an unusual ally to help save Atlantis. Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul Mateen IITemuera Morrison and Nicole Kidman are also part of the recurring cast.

While the actor was at Sundance promoting the new documentary Deep Rising, The Wrap got a chance to talk to Momoa about Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The actor admitted during their chat that throughout the movie’s lengthy filming timeline, “I’ve filmed with a few different Batmans.”

He declined to clarify which artist or artists he is referring to or which will appear in the finished piece, saying instead that “you just don’t know what’s going on and we’ll see what the end result is” in light of the recent changes to the DCU lineup.

Every possible DCU Batman explained

The recent merger between Warner Bros., the parent company of the DCU, and Discovery has led to major changes in the universe. The complete cancellation of the Batgirl movie, while it was in post-production, was the most dramatic result of this merger.

Michael Keaton would reprise his role as Batman from 1989’s Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns in that movie, which would coincide with his appearances in the also-delayed The Flash and a rumored appearance in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Keaton is likely one of the actors Momoa discussed filming with, though it hasn’t been confirmed yet.

For a while, it seemed that the DC Universe would temporarily reinstate Keaton as the main Batman by using the events of The Flash. Ben Affleck, who previously played the role in the 2016 film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the 2017 film Justice League, was reportedly in talks to return alongside Momoa, and an Instagram photo of the actor with Momoa led to speculation that he would too. appear in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

It seems that the DC Universe, now run by co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, is still discussing how the series will develop in the future and change Aquaman to fit their plans. Robert Pattinson, the one Batman artist least likely to join the DC Universe, has had the most recent success.

The Batman, a 2022 hit set in a universe other than the DC Universe, starring Pattinson. If Gunn and Safran decide that, it could always be collapsed, but that doesn’t seem likely. Ultimately, we won’t know the answers to any of these problems for sure until Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is released.
