In an RPG like Hogwarts Legacy, which, at least to some extent, leaves us free to choose, it’s normal to wait for several possible endings to reflect the different decisions. This is especially true when the story is quite Manichean and opposes two radically different philosophies as in the Harry Potter license.

How do you choose an ending in Hogwarts Legacy?
It’s a bit of a shame, but Hogwarts Legacy somewhat falls into the same trappings as other AAA RPGs, such as Mass Effect 3, whose ending had shocked fans. The ending you get is based entirely on two answers you’re going to give Professor Fig, just before the clash with Rannrok, at the very end of the game.
Your actions and choices during the previous story are inconsistent. Even if you are the worst student at Hogwarts, who refuses to help his comrades, takes money from them and has learned all the forbidden spells, you can get the good ending, and vice versa.
End the selection dialog with Fig
To give you some background on the ending, after completing the fourth trial and defeating Victor Rookwood, you can start the final story mission in the depths of Hogwarts, protecting the repository of ancient magic from attacking goblins.
Many goblins and trolls will enter with the help of exercises, and the various teachers of the school will assist you, while Fig advances with you into the breach, until you reach the precious reserve of ancient magic. He then starts the dialogue asking you what you plan to do with all this magic, and your answers will determine whether you are entitled to the good or bad ending. That said, there is nothing to worry about, the direction of your answers is obvious.
Happy Hogwarts Legacy Ending
If you want to play nice, answer when Fig asks what you plan to do with the deposit:
“I intend to keep him here.”
Then, when he asks you how long you plan to keep the power:
“I will protect him forever.”
Fig will then appreciate your answers and congratulate you on your dedication. This is followed by the arrival of Rannrok, who opens the depot, and the battle against the final boss begins. Once defeated, seal and preserve the ancient magic, using Fig. But his injuries and exhaustion get the better of him and he dies peacefully. The game then continues with the conclusion common to both endings, which we’ll detail later.
Bad end of Hogwarts Legacy
If you feel like playing a villain, or at least someone ambitious, when Fig asks you what you plan to do with the deposit, answer:
“I intend to open it.”
Fig will then question your choice, as this magic has caused much suffering in the past. You then have three options. The first “You’re right.” Let’s go back and choose the right ending. Conversely, you should choose the bad ending:
“This power must not be kept from this world.”
Or plainly:
“I want to seize this power.”
So you’re showing Fig who’s boss by being brutally honest, and that you don’t care about his opinion.
Again, Rannrok will rudely interrupt what could have turned into a fight to the death with Fig. Instead, your teacher gets a brick in the face, which probably explains why we don’t see him after that.
The battle against the Dragon of Rannrok ensues. When you defeat him, the magic is released and uncontrollable. Unlike the happy ending, Fig no longer appears. Instead, your character absorbs some magic to become stronger, causing their eyes to glow with a characteristic red glow, which doesn’t bode well.
He then takes control of the repository of ancient magic and absorbs it, before thanking Miriam, Fig’s deceased wife, as he picks up his wand.
Common conclusion
After the fate of the Repository of Ancient Magic is decided, the game moves to the Great Hall of Hogwarts and to Headmaster Black, who delivers an awkward, even insulting, funeral speech in honor of the late Professor. This one is therefore killed in both endings, even though he never reappears in the wrong one. Deputy Principal Weasley then takes over.
After the speech, you are entitled to a dialogue with Sebastien Pallow, revealing to him that it was not a goblin who cursed his sister Anne, but Victor Rookwook, whom you were kind enough to kill in his place. Friendship is beautiful. He then acknowledges that his prejudices against goblins were misplaced.
However, the game is not quite over yet. It’s time to prepare your year-end checks, the OWLs, that are needed complete the wizard guide and make sure you are at least level 34.
You are also entitled to dialogues with different characters, their content may vary depending on the quests performed and the choices you made. However, keep in mind that this does not fundamentally change anything.
Once the year-end events are over, the famous House Cup ceremony takes place. Weasley awards you a large number of house points for your heroic deeds during the invasion of Hogwarts. This tips the scales and your house wins the cup. You then win the Straight to the Goal Trophy.
The long-term consequences of your choices regarding ancient magic are never detailed. Since the topic is never discussed in the rest of the Harry Potter universe, it’s fair to assume that the secret was well kept in the good ending, but you didn’t manage to take over the world or start a revolution to bring about in the world. bad ending.
