Early life of Dolly Parton
Dolly Rebecca Parton, the fourth of twelve children, was born in 1946 in Sevier County, Tennessee. Her father grew tobacco for a living. She remembered that her father gave the doctor who helped her birth a sack of oats as payment. Her early performances were often in church, where music had always played an important role.
Parton made her TV debut on The Cas Walker Show when she was just 9 years old, and soon after she signed with the humble Louisiana label. Gold Band Records. In 1964, the day after Dolly graduated from high school, she turned her life around and left for Nashville.. Soon she was able to establish herself as a successful composer.
