Jameela Jamil, a British actress, has spoken out about her struggle with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a rare condition that affects the body’s connective tissues. On Tuesday, the actress posted a video of herself on social media pulling her cheeks to demonstrate the skin’s elasticity and flexibility.

She intended the video to raise awareness of the problem and encourage people to seek treatment, as undiagnosed or untreated cases of the condition can be fatal. In a video posted by Jameela Jamil, she can be heard saying:

“Hello, have a look at this. This is not a filter or program. Look how elastic my face is – me. I have EDS, HEDS 3 and the H because I’m so hypermobile, which is why it’s so elastic. She discussed her joints and showed how nothing bends “the right way”. She said:

“Even though people like to make fun of me for my condition, I still want to talk about it. It’s a dangerous condition if you don’t know you have it because it affects every aspect of your mind and body.

Symptoms of Jameela Jamil? Detailing the Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

Although Jameela Jamil’s disease is relatively uncommon, she explains in her video that if left undiagnosed or untreated, it can be quite dangerous. According to experts, the disease is a collection of inherited conditions that lead to abnormal collagen function.

These can also affect the connective tissue that often supports and forms the skin, joints, bones, and even blood vessels. People with this disease have unusually mobile joints and flexible, brittle skin that can break easily, as seen in Jameela Jamils video.

According to experts, there are roughly 13 different types of EDS. Hypermobility is one of them, and the Good Place actress has it. In addition, there are different forms such as spondylodysplastic, classical-like, cardiac-vascular, vascular, brittle corneaand so on. In terms of symptoms, the most common are flaccid joints, elastic skin, and sensitive skin.

However, if a person has excessive muscle discomfort, muscle fatigue, easily bruised skin, or problems with their heart valves, they should see a doctor immediately. A few mobility tests, genetic testing, a skin sample, and an echocardiography test can all be used to make a quick and accurate diagnosis.

Jameela Jamil stated in her video that it raises awareness of the rare condition was the only reason she made the video. The She-Hulk actor yelled about the warning signs and symptoms:

“The way it affects bleeding, bruising and healing, as well as whether you want to get pregnant… I don’t do drugs, drink or smoke. I worry about my health, which puts me at a disadvantage. It indicates that you suffer from joint dislocation, difficulty brushing your teeth, migraines and sporadic allergies.

She also sought to raise awareness of the condition and encourage individuals to seek medical attention if they experienced symptoms. “I’m not a doctor, but I want you to see one. If you constantly have accidents with your joints, look at the symptoms. You might end up living – the people who have it look good. I love you. I share your opinion. Get checked!”

This is not the first time Jameela Jamil has spoken out about her condition. When she posted a video about it on social media in 2019, she addressed the issue. In an interview with Parade in 2021, she discussed it again, calling it an “invisible disease.” You can also check Auditory Processing Disorder Symptoms: How Is It Tested and Treated?
