Brendan Fraser won Best Actor at the Critics’ Choice Awards, gave a moving speech

In recognition of his performance in The Whale, Brendan Fraser took home the Best Actor award at the Critics’ Choice Awards. He also delivered one of the most moving speeches of the night.

Fraser began to sob when his name was announced as the winner, and as he took the stage he quoted Herman Melville as saying “once there are only five critics in America, the rest are asleep.”

The actor claimed he had no idea what that actually meant, but still expressed gratitude that “the critics were waking up to me.” The Whale is a love story and a story of redemption, he continued. I feel very lucky to have been able to work with such a great ensemble.

It’s about finding the light in a dark place. Fraser continued to thank his co-stars, crediting Hong Chau and joking that she “should have her own movie based on every character she’s ever portrayed.”

A special mention was also made for Sadie Sink, who was called “amazing”. Ty Simpkins, according to Fraser, “won the game ball every day”, and Sam Hunter was his ‘lighthouse’. I was in the woods, and I probably should have left a trail of it bread-crumbsbut you found me,” he said.

Everyone who worked on this project did so thinking that this was our only chance to do something of this nature. This movie has a lot of potential to be beneficial in my opinion.
