Brandon Routh, known for his role in Legends of Tomorrow, will appear in the next episode of Quantum Leap, premiering Monday, February 27 at 10/9c on NBC. The American actor is known for his role as Superman in the 2006 movie Superman Returns and Dylan Dog in Dylan Dog: Dead of Night. Routh in character has also been photographed by NBC. Brandon Routh is given the title Commander Alexander Augustine after Addison’s father. The story takes place in 1989, during a period of war exercises. The title of the episode is SOS.
The following is the synopsis for the upcoming episode:
“When Ben jumps aboard a naval battleship during war simulations in 1989, he must not only undertake a dangerous rescue mission, but also wrestle with his commanding officer, XO Alexander Augustine, better known as Addison’s father.”
Dean Georgaris wrote the screenplay and directed it.

Brandon Routh enjoyed the original Quantum Leap series.
Routh expressed his gratitude for participating in the NBC reboot of Quantum Leap, revealing in a statement that he was a huge fan of the original program growing up. He said:
“Growing up on Quantum Leap, it was a privilege to play such an important figure in Addison’s life! Ray [Lee] and Caitlyn [Bassett] are a great team and I enjoyed being a part of it. It was also great for me as an Iowan to shoot aboard the USS Iowa!
Raymond Lee, the creator of the show, already hinted what to expect in the upcoming episode.
He told TV Line in an interview:
“Addison can end her father in several ways. It’s a fantastic dynamic because I’m directly under his authority during the show. He sometimes plays the role of father-in-law to me. That energy is there, and we prefer to embrace it.”
He described the upcoming episode as “short and cinematic” and added:
“We have a lot of drone footage there. Being on board an operational warship is also a sight to behold.”
Routh has played The Atom in episodes such as The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl and Batwoman, in addition to Superman Returns, Dylan Dog: Dead of Night and Legends of Tomorrow. He appeared on many programs including The Rookie, Black-ish, Chuck, and One Life to Live.
What exactly is Quantum Leap?
Quantum Leap is a reboot of Donald P. Bellisario’s original series of the same name. The events of the program took place 30 years after Dr. Sam Beckett entered the Quantum Leap accelerator during the season 5 finale of the original show. The official NBC Science Fiction synopsis is as follows:
“Dr. Sam Beckett disappeared about 30 years ago when he walked into the Quantum Leap accelerator. Now a new team, led by scientist Ben Song (Raymond Lee), has been recruited to continue the investigation in hopes of unraveling the mysteries surrounding the machine and the man who invented it.”
It goes on to say:
“Everything changes, however, when Ben takes an unapproved leap into the past and leaves the crew behind why. During his jumps, Ben is accompanied by Addison (Caitlin Bassett), who appears as a hologram that only Ben can see and hear. She is a seasoned army veteran who approaches her work with calm precision.”
Donald P. Bellisario, Martin Gero, Steven Lilien, Bryan Wynbrandt, Deborah Pratt, Helen Shaver, and Dean Georgaris are among the show’s executive producers.
