Previously unseen police bodycam footage from Odell Beckham Jr.’s November drama published at Miami International Airport. During the approximately 45 minutes of footage, the Rams wide receiver can be heard calling the passenger “fat” and “ugly.”
Flight attendants can be seen in the footage describing how the actor was unresponsive and not wearing pants when they ordered him to fasten his seatbelt. Video of the Nov. 27 incident was released this week by the Miami-Dade Police Department.
It begins with agents boarding American Airlines Flight 1228 and walking to the 30-year-old man’s first-class seat. People on the plane watch as the police approach Beckham with interest. Can you stand up, sir? Excuse me, but would you please stand up?
Is everything okay?” said the officer. Beckham sits awake, looking bewildered, and claims he was “probably in a deep sleep” as the police officers explained their presence. After questioning Beckham, the police cleared him, but the flight attendants fought back saying he wasn’t wearing pants (even though he was) and that he smelled like alcohol.
A female attendant asks the police, “Do you know how many times we shook him to put on the seatbelt?” Repeatedly, with different individuals. Stewardess: “This is a five hour flight, he shouldn’t be doing this,” adding that Beckham told one of them he had been to a club the night before.
He is exhausted, police said. The flight crew and captain all wanted him off the plane as quickly as possible, calling him “belligerent and non-compliant”. Beckham remains firm, even when the captain approaches him.
Passengers are forced to leave the plane by his behavior and the airport employees can be heard talking about the famous footballer. The question, “Can I get his autograph?” is being asked. Beckham begins confronting passengers and apologizes when the decision to remove them from the plane is announced.
A passenger in first class starts a riot by saying, “Just get off the plane”, and the rest of the passengers soon join in. Beckham replies, “F*ck you,” to his critics. Beckham tells the police officer, “I’ve never experienced anything like this before.” He is offered the next flight, but he refuses.
The police warn that they must disembark everyone on the plane before they can let you go. Beckham replies, “That’s fine”. A fellow passenger, mocking Beckham by saying “you can stare at me all you want”, responds by telling him to “just get off the plane” as they get off.
Beckham approaches and says, “There’s nothing you can ever say. You represent everything that is flawed on our planet. For you, I want you to watch me as the plane descends so I can help you get off the plane. For you in particular, I would never, ever leave the plane.
Maybe I would leave the plane with the rest of the passengers. All that nonsense has no bearing on my life. When you get home in 40 minutes, I’ll take a private jet. You bet your fat ass on it. Get off the plane immediately. On your drive home, “enjoy the cheese board with your ugly ass.”
He then turns to the other travelers on board and says, “Life is messed up, I’m sorry. Actually, all you had to do was wake me up. Later, when he’s on the plane alone, you’ll hear him say, “Then some white dude will stare at me and talk about ‘just get off the plane.'”
This proves my argument that I don’t want to get off the goddamn plane, asshole. “This is so absurd it’s unbelievable.” He then makes a specific request to the police: “The white man, with the red shirt on, please don’t let me pass him.” Just that, please. Later, the police warn him, “Don’t slip on that brother.”
In the end, the police comfort him by telling him that it comes “from a place of love” to calm him down. The applause and cheers begin as soon as he is taken off the plane and taken to the airport among the sea of waiting guests. No criminal charges have been brought against Beckham.
Called a business traveler Carlos Gauna told The Daily Beast, “He was pretty much the last passenger to get off the plane.” Eventually everyone was allowed back on the plane and we were able to take off. An “overzealous flight attendant”, according to Daniel DavillierBeckham’s counsel.
