Ian is quite secretive when it comes to his private life and has not shared any details about his siblings and parents, but it is believed that he grew up on a farm where he learned how to shoot. His father was a collector of guns, especially many Japanese guns from World War II.
Growing up, he spent most of his free time outdoors while still focused on his studies as his parents urged him to get a college degree. Not much is known about his career from 2004 to 2010 when he stayed out of the limelight, but Ian worked several jobs before venturing into guns and blogging.
He gained recognition in April 2010 when he joined Schletter, Inc. came as their technical sales project manager – he was in charge of solar panel and is credited with selling $12 million worth of product in 2011. In September 2011, Ian was promoted to Director of Inside Sales, responsible for a team of project managers, but left Schletter, Inc. in June 2012.
In June 2010, Ian and several other people created the Forgotten Weapons website, which he has owned and edited ever since. He is responsible for researching and writing about guns that people may not have heard of, and the history of guns in general.
In 2014, Ian joined InRange Productions LLC as their executive producer and host – the show is about reviews and field reports on both old and new guns, and he has held this job to this day. Since January 2015, he also works at Armament Research Services (ARES) as their researcher – the company provides technical expertise and analysis of weapons and ammunition to both governmental and non-governmental organizations.
In February 2015, Ian joined the Association of Firearm and Toolmark Examiners (AFTE) as their Technical Adviser, and continues to work for them to this day, while also being involved with the National Firearms Act Trade & Collectors since February 2019 Association, and serves on their board of directors.
Ian also runs his and his friends’ YouTube channel ‘Forgotten Weapons’, which they launched on May 9, 2011, to which nearly two million people have subscribed today, and all of their videos combined have approximately 750 million views.
The channel’s two most popular videos are “M134 Minigun: The Modern Gatling Gun” – more than 8.3 million views as of December 22, 2016 – and “World’s Smallest Pistol – 2.7mm Kolibri” – more than six million views since December 28 August 2014.
Love life and wife
Ian is very secretive when it comes to his love life, and nothing is known about his past and current affairs, but there are many rumors circulating on the internet about his alleged marriage and sexual orientation.
