The Jedi are similar to historical heroes such as the Samurai and the Knights in that they share a commitment to morality along with their deadly combat prowess. While knights have the code of chivalry and samurai have bushido, Jedi adhere to the Jedi code, which has evolved over time and continuously.

Throughout its existence, the Jedi Order has made some questionable decisions. While Obi-Wan Kenobi fakes his death during the Clone Wars, way too Anakin SkywalkerIn the Legends continuity, the Jedi erase Darth Revan’s memory and restore him to the Jedi Order.
In the prequels, the Jedi order Anakin Skywalker to spy on Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, while in the original trilogy, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda tell Luke Skywalker a lie about what happened to Anakin.
While the behavior of the Jedi was questionable at best on every occasion, their actions were understandably seen as necessary sacrifices for the common good. The dishonest activities of the Jedi Order are even more damaging as the Power of the Jedi sourcebook shows that honesty is an important quality expected of Jedi in the Legends continuity.
But in the canon there is no mention of fairness in the Jedi code, which would lessen the blow of their more problematic behavior in the current chronology. Citizens of the Star Wars galaxy are generally held in high esteem by Jedi Knights, therefore any apparent betrayal of these beliefs is likely to be met with anger.
