This is an issue that as a cisgender white woman I cannot discuss. Nevertheless, I won’t be discouraged from getting involved with Pride and learning about its historical significance. We hope our posts will bring much-needed attention to some of the most pressing issues facing the LGBTQ community. The Stonewall riots, which took place in New York City in 1969, marked a turning point in the history of the gay rights movement. On June 28, 1969, police raided a New York City gay bar, attempting to transport the LGBT community in police vans. After the riots, a new era of resistance and revolution began. In 1970, New York City held its first Pride parade in response to the Stonewall riots.

There were also gays Pride parades simultaneously in Chicago and Los Angeles. June 2009 was declared Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans* Pride Month by President Barack Obama. In honor of LGBTQI Pride Month, President Joe Biden will declare June 22, 2022 as LGBTQI Pride Month. If you’re straight and attending Pride Month events, you need to be a committed ally and participate in meaningful conversations. LGBTQ people continue to be persecuted and discriminated against. Don’t be a virtue signaller! If you are a virtue signaller, do your job correctly.

Please note that participating in Pride events is a way for you to raise awareness about your community. In 2018, the LGBT community was the source of 17% of hate crimes. Between 2018 and 2019, there was an increase in gender identity-based hate crimes. The trans community is particularly prone to hate crimes. States in the United States still have no transgender or sexual identity protections in their hate crime laws. In most cases, LGBTQ+ issues are less likely to be brought up during Pride parades because they are too flashy and fun to focus on. Pride is currently being commercialized, jeopardizing its core purpose of raising awareness.

People who identify as LGBTQ+ continue to be harassed and abused in some countries, and being a member of the community is still considered a crime. Give to LGBTQ+ organizations if you want to make a positive difference in the world. If you are dealing with stress, suicide, bullying or overwhelming feelings, please contact the organizations listed below. More than passing laws is the goal of equality. Pride Month has since grown into a global celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights and community. In 2017, there were Pride events in more than 60 countries.
Pride Month is a time to reflect on the history of the LGBT civil rights struggle. The commemoration is held to recognize the progress made in the struggle for equality, acceptance and liberation.

Why Pride Month Matters

It is critical to recognize the achievements of the LGBTQ community during Pride Month. During the Stonewall riots in the early 20th century, LGBTQ+ rights were galvanized at a watershed moment in history. Riots broke out in the city on June 28, when police raided the Stonewall Inn. The LGBTQ+ community has made significant strides in recent years and Pride Month is celebrated to commemorate this. In addition to showing your support for the LGBTQ community, Pride Month is an opportunity to learn about their struggles and successes. The rainbow flag is a symbol of LGBTQ+ acceptance used to show support. The colors of the flag represent different aspects of the LGBTQ community. Hot pink, red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, indigo and violet are all colors associated with LGBTQ+ identities. Pride Month is celebrated in March because of the Stonewall riots that take place in that month.

What date is Gay Pride?

Gay pride is a celebration of the LGBT community that takes place annually in June. The date of the event varies from city to city, but usually falls on the last weekend of the month. Pride celebrations include parades, festivals, and other events designed to promote the visibility and acceptance of the LGBT community.

In addition to promoting unity, visibility and self-esteem among the LGBTQ community in Phoenix and Arizona, the LGBTQ community is encouraged to come together at Phoenix Gay Pride. Every year, Houston hosts the city’s largest LGBTQ festival, Houston Gay Pride. The Mile High City turns into a rainbow of colors every third weekend in June as a result of Denver Gay Pride. This year’s Pride parade will take place in Seattle on June 30, and San Francisco will host the Pride Festival at the end of June. The Seattle Pride Parade has been held since 1926. The Gay Liberation Front of New Orleans organized New Orleans’ first gay pride in 1971, and the first Capital Pride, also known as DC Pride, took place in 1972. WeHo Pride, which will be held in conjunction with the One City One Pride LGBTQ Arts Festival, will be the inaugural event. Pittsburgh’s first Pride Parade was held on June 17, 1973, just four years after the Stonewall riots in New York City.

While Pride events have been held in many cities around the world, they all have one thing in common: they all serve to show support for the LGBT community and to raise awareness about the discrimination and violence faced 50 years after the Stonewall riots still face.
As we celebrate Pride, we remember the battles that have been fought and we commit to keep fighting until LGBT+ people are complete and equal in every way.

Pride In London: a celebration of diversity

Pride will take place in London on Saturday 2 July 2022. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first Pride event in the UK, making it a particularly historic year for the Pride movement and the LGBT community. To commemorate and celebrate the progress the LGBT community has made over the past 50 years, Pride Month is celebrated. In 1977, Washington chose the month of March for Lesbian and Gay Rights in honor of National Coming Out Day, which was celebrated on October 11. This year should be no exception. We expect a diverse and inclusive celebration of diversity and inclusion at Pride in London, and participants can get something positive and inspiring out of it. We couldn’t do Pride without you; we thank you for your support of the movement.
