The split between Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon has been keeping fans busy for years. The singer of “We belong Together” released her biography, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, on Sept. 29, in which she discusses the divorce she went through.
According to Mariah Carey’s memoir, “The meaning of Mariah Carey“ her marriage to Nick Cannon deteriorated after the birth of their first child in 2011. (They are the parents of Moroccan Scott Cannon, 9, and Monroe Cannon, 9, who are fraternal twins.) “Making the adult changes required to be working parents in entertainment took a toll on our relationship, and the end of our marriage came quickly, as it began,” she wrote.

The “Touch my body‘, the singer also said about their marriage “maybe it worked” but that their differences in personality eventually led to their divorce. ″Honestly, I think Nick and I could have worked it out between the two of us, but egos and emotions got inflamed (which can translate into many billable attorney hours, and eventually it did),″ she wrote. “It was tough. We both wanted to make sure everything was cool for our family. We’ll always be family, and we’ll make it work.”

At the 2005 Teen Choice Awards, Cannon gave Carey a surfboard, and the two quickly became friends. The couple tied the knot in 2008 and officially divorced in 2016. Mariah Carey, who sang “Hero,” said in her book “The Meaning of Mariah Carey” that she had no intention of having children until she met Nick Cannon. “Our desire to have children became a force of nature and why we got married so quickly,” she wrote.
The Grammy-winning artist also discussed their first meeting. When they first met, she informed him that she had heard him praise her to others. Carey described the man’s reaction: ″With a genuine radiant smile and a flame in his eyes, he replied, “If you give me the chance, I will prove it all true,” Carey wrote. “A cute moment – very.”
Carey and Cannon continue to co-parent their twins despite their marriage failing. Unlike her supposedly tyrannical ex-husband Tommy Mottola, Carey “felt protected” with the strip, she writes in her memoir. ″He was a good guy. He was based on faith. He was ambitious, she wrote. ″He had been in the entertainment industry for a long time, so he understood the madness. He paid attention to me.”
