The streaming giant Netflix recently shocked everyone by saying it was canceling the “1899” show. The makers of ‘Dark’, Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, will not make a second season of their mystery sci-fi show set in the past.

As with ‘Dark,’ the creators of the show had plans for two more seasons, but it was not to be. However, fans of the show won’t give up that easily.

After trying to get the streaming service to change its mind and failing, many people have now signed petitions to keep the show going. One petition on Change.org has so far been signed by more than 35,000 people.

“1899 was clearly made with multiple seasons in mind. After the first season, there are a lot of unanswered questions and a big cliffhanger at the end of the last episode. We want a renewal of the show and a happy ending to the story,” the petition reads succinctly.

The show that played Emily Beecham, Andreas Pietschmann, Aneurin Barnard, Rosalie Craig, Clara Rosager, Lucas Lynggaard, Miguel Bernardeau, Anton Lesser, Ben Ashenden and Alexander Owen, was about a group of immigrants traveling from London to New York. They find another ship floating in the ocean and find themselves in the middle of a mystery.

The reviews for “1899” were mostly positive. On the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes, the show received a score of 76%. The critical consensus read, “1899 navigates its multicultural passengers through an atmospheric mystery, delivering a thrilling journey, even though it may never reach a satisfying destination.”
